What Wall Thickness Dripline Will Last the Longest?
When you’re investing in a dripline system, durability matters. The wall thickness of your dripline determines how long it will last under pressure, sunlight, and field handling. At Afriq Water, we manufacture the Afriq Drip range in multiple wall thickness options — from lightweight disposable tape to heavy-duty multi-year dripline — so you can choose exactly what suits your field conditions.
This is all based on pipe only, dripline emitters do not have a lifetime since they are so delicate. Filter your water properly to get the most out of your estimated lifetime! Flush your lines weekly at least.
How Wall Thickness Affects Lifespan
Dripline wall thickness is measured in millimetres (mm) and directly influences its strength, UV resistance, and pressure tolerance. Thicker walls are more resistant to wear and tear, sunlight degradation, and mechanical damage during installation or harvesting.
- Thinner walls (0.15–0.30 mm): Designed for short-term or seasonal crops. Easier to install and replace but shorter-lived.
- Medium walls (0.40–0.60 mm): Multi-season performance with good flexibility and durability — ideal for farmers seeking balance between cost and longevity.
- Thicker walls (0.90–1.00 mm): Heavy-duty dripline for permanent or long-term installations. The most robust and UV-stable option available.
The Longest-Lasting Dripline Options from Afriq Drip
- 0.90 mm Wall Thickness — Heavy | Five-Year+ Dripline | 500 m Roll
Very thick, durable, and UV-resistant. Perfect for permanent installations and high-pressure systems where reliability is critical. - 1.00 mm Wall Thickness — Heavy | Five-Year+ Dripline | 400 m Roll
The most durable dripline in the Afriq Drip range. Extremely strong and unyielding, designed for long-term professional irrigation systems with high UV exposure.
Both 0.90 mm and 1.00 mm wall thicknesses are available in Pressure Compensating (PC) versions for sloped or uneven fields — providing the longest possible service life and performance consistency.
When to Choose a Lighter Dripline
If your system is affected by lime or you prefer to replace dripline seasonally, thinner walls (0.15–0.30 mm) are more practical and affordable. In this case, durability isn’t the goal — cost-effective replacement is.
However, for treated water systems or permanent crops, always choose a thicker wall dripline to maximise longevity and minimise replacement costs.
