Why we recommend getting LDPE locally

LDPE Class 3 Mainline Pipes are extremely expensive to transport.

Getting it nearest to you, and driving out to get it, is the way to go.

We supply LDPE only to small, local farms, and only when we have stock. Give us a call to see if we have stock. If we do not have stock, we giving Plastic Pipe Centre, a dedicated LDPE mainline manufacturer, a call +27 83 268 5632

Works with Vanlok+ Turf Fittings or Irrigation Unlimited’s Poly Prop fittings. We recommend the use of clamps if you’re using poly prop.

Pressure Rating for CL3 LDPE

Class 3 LDPE works at 3 BAR. Although it is ideal for dripline applications, it is not ideal for high-pressure sprinkler applications.

Material that CL3 LDPE is made of

Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

Why is LDPE CL3 ideal for dripline?

You don’t need anything more for your mainline! Using HDPE is just a waste of money, as dripline irrigation works optimally at 1 BAR anyway. You don’t need a pipe that can handle 6 BAR if you’re restricted to 1 BAR already.

Please note, this is for the connection to the mainline. For water transport out-field (meaning from the pump or the water source to the field) we cannot recommend one pipe over another, since it depends on your needs.

Why 40mm+ LDPE CL3 is recommended for dripline

Since the curve of 32mm LDPE and sizes below that is so round, it is difficult for the grooved sealing rubber to have a proper seal over the hole in the mainline LDPE. With a larger pipe, i.e. 40mm LDPE, the curve is a lot flatter and the grooved sealing rubber can stick easier.
